Once again, today we visited the orangutan. Sarah brought a
camera, which cost us an extra 50,000rp (£3.50), To buy a permit for having a
camera in the jungle. We had a mum and her young child turn up to throw some
shapes for the cameras as they gobbled down banana's.
We spent the heat of the day by the river. Slowly we waded
across the fast flowing river to the far side, in which we would be safe from
the hoards of intrusive indonesian tourists. I spent some hours stacking and
balancing rocks on one another.
A large group of monkeys turned up. I sat on the riverside
as about 30 monkeys surrounded us and started trouble. 3 monkeys literally came
and sat around me, not 3ft away from where I was sitting. They stared
enquisitively at me, it was quite intimidating. Sarah was running around taking
photos, leaving our bags unattended. Soon enough a monkey was pulling my
glasses case apart, whilst another hobbled off with sarahs shoe, a monkey sat
and flicked through the pages of the book Sarah was reading, Cloud Atlas.
We had dinner with a couple we had previously met, planning
to share a car to Tangkahan tomorrow. My flipflops have been stolen from our
homestay. Having abandoned my shoes to Pulau Weh, I am now completely shoeless.
This is a low point.
